Jan Werner has since his debut in 1994, in Norway’s biggest talent competition ever (Talentiaden NRK), been one of the best selling and popular artists in the country. His unique vocal range (4 octaves!) and personallity has fascinated his fans for over a decade.
Jan Werner, originally Jan Werner Danielsen, was born April 1976 in a small village called Nord-Odal. Jan Werner was always interested in music and theatre. But it wasn’t until he was about twelve years old his enormous vocal potential was discovered. His mother tells us about the time when her crystal bowl broke in half after Werner singing an especially high note. She knew then that singing and music was going to be a huge part of her son’s life.
Jan Werner Spent his teen years starting his own theatre company, playing trumpet in different local bands and singing in talent competitions. He got his first record-deal in 1989, at 13, Werner felt it was too early to start a career before his vocal cords was fully developed. The record deal resulted in one single “my prayer”, which is still a popular collectors item among Werner’s fans.
Jan Werner spent the next five years developing both his tenor voice but also an amazing mezzo soprano voice which strength and operatic sound keeps impressing his fans and critics whenever they hear his music.
Jan Werner won Norways biggest talent competition in 1994, winning the first cultural gold medal at the Lillehammer Olympic games. Universal records then signed the young star, Jan Werner has recorded his album nr 6, selling close to a total of one million albums and singles since the debut! His latest accomplishment was his 2003 album “singer of songs”, it sold triple platinum, making him the best selling artist in Norway that year. The album also resulted in singing the opening song for the peace prize concert and sold out concerts in Royal Albert Hall in London and Carnegie hall in New York. Even though Jan Werner has enjoyed huge success as a recording artist, he most of all loved singing his songs live for his audience, which is said was an incredible experience.
His Christmas concerts, musical shows and album tours were sold out everywhere he went.
With all his success Jan Werner still managed to keep his feet on the ground. He was always humble and thankful. Jan Werner’s motto was “I will do the best i can and i`ll see how far i can get”
Jan Werner died only 30 years old, however his music will live forever and the memories will live forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace Jan Werner!
